Understanding Local Body Elections: Municipal, MPTC/ZPTC and Sarpanch
Local governance forms the core of grassroots democracy. MPTC/ZPTC Elections
At the rural level, local governance follows a multi-tired structure known as the Panchayat Raj system, consisting of the village, mandal and district levels. MPTC and ZPTC represent the middle and upper tiers of this rural network.
Groups of villages form a Mandal. Each MPTC constituency elects one representative.
Elected MPTC members assemble to choose the Mandal Parishad President (MPP), who overseen local development works at the block level.
ZPTC: (ZILLA PARISHAD TERRITORIAL CONSTITUENCY)
Spanning a broader geographic footprint, each ZPTC represents a collection of mandals within a district.
ZPTC members form the governing body of the Zilla Parishad and elect a Zill Parishad Chairperson to manage district-wide developmental funds public health initiatives and secondary education.
